Every art form—film, music, painting, sculpture, dance, poetry, theater, fiction, and so on—has strengths and limitations. Photography—especially fine art still photography—is no different. Of all the artistic modes of expression, though, still photography has perhaps been most impacted by digital technology and social media, some of its uniqueness diminished by the billions of photographs posted or shared each day. Yet, through the combination of words and photographs, a powerful hybrid work can be created, a work able to reach an eager, interested, and receptive audience online or in print. The workshop will explore ways to pair words and photographs to create an original, cohesive, potentially publishable hybrid work. It will also provide strategies the participant can use to help reach an audience beyond the here today, gone today fun of social media.
