ACCENT, METER AND TEMPO: Silent Hill 2 by Akira Yamaoka

Don’t be fooled by the first track. Like the eponymous town of Silent Hill, the darkness, isolation, fear, and violence present in these tracks is buried beneath the exterior. Dive in to find introspection, hints of a vague mystery and scarce optimism through constantly shifting, amorphous yet industrial and metallic soundscapes coupled with occasional flashes of dark

trip-hop. Like Jacob’s Ladder, this soundtrack and the video game to which it belongs revel in existing in an intersection between worlds, sleep and consciousness, trauma and love.
