"DARIÉN", the photobook by Colombian photographer Federico Rios Escobar, documents migrants crossing the Darién Gap. Published by Raya Editorial and edited by Santiago Escobar Jaramillo, this poignant photographic narrative captures, over recent years, the human cost of pursuing the American dream for those traveling from Venezuela, China, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Haiti to the United States, after leaving their countries behind due to social, political, and economic tensions.
"DARIÉN" offers an ongoing dialogue about the arduous journey migrants must endure—through roads, rivers, plateaus, streets, beaches, seas, and jungles. The concrete jungle soon transforms into one of mud, torrents, and vipers, where armed human dangers lurk. The enduring motivation to press on, even when strength and sustenance are scarce, is the vital desire to achieve the dream and embrace their loved ones.
