After working for years documenting migrant movements through latin America, Federico rios escobar is ready to publish his photobook Darién. Darién is edited by Santiago Escobar-Jaramillo and with a cover by Daniela hoyos, published by Raya Editorial.

“I have made different journeys with them; the first was when they left Venezuela for Colombia, then I accompanied some groups that went to Brazil and after that, I walked with many of them back to their country, when in the middle of the pandemic they lost their jobs and decided to return en masse to Venezuela.
From Venezuela they returned to Colombia and in 2021 they started to cross the Darien Gap in large groups with the idea of crossing Central America and reaching the United States. In addition to Venezuelans, thousands of people of more than 100 nationalities have crossed the jungle strait that connects Colombia with Panama, pursuing the dream and hope of reaching the north.
They come from 4 continents, migrating from places as far away as China, Bangladesh or Afghanistan, and also from places as close as Venezuela, and even from within Colombia.”

This photobook collects their travels, their journeys and their faces, their tormented and anguished steps, full of uncertainty and also of hope.
This project seeks to provide a visual account of migration.
