MOVIE GUIDE: Disclaimer (Limited TV Series-2024)

What’s a fact? What’s fiction? What’s a secret? Catherine Ravenscroft, a seasoned and respected documentarian seems, to know - or navigate- all of these questions, until a book written by an unknown author mysteriously appears and she’s the main character. The bomb has been dropped. Alfonso Cuaron’s impecable new work and his second (?) Incursion into the TV format is certainly something not to be missed. A 7 part miniseries where no expenses were spared in terms of casting (Cate Blanchet, Kevin Kline, Leslie George, Leslie Manville, Sacha Baron-Cohen) and where the written narrative goes closely hand in hand with a striking visual style. Four voices tell each side of the story: She, Him, I; you, accompanied by four different approaches in cinematography helmed by Cuaron’s “compadre” and 3 time Oscar winner Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki and 6 time Oscar Nominee, Bruno Delbonel. Even though is not unusual for TV Series to have multiple DP’s, what set “Disclaimer” apart from the rest, is that this important creative decision was made on purpose in order to widen the scope of how the stories are told and how each narrative affects the characters. Colors, lenses and movements are an indivisible part of the whole tale…One where facts, lies, and secrets compete fiercely Against each other.

“…Beware of narrative and form, their power can bring us

closer to the truth, but they can also be a weapon with great power to manipulate…”
